About SCBB

Established in 2003, the School of Chemical Biology and Biotechnology (SCBB) at Peking University (PKU) in Shenzhen leverages the university's disciplinary strengths to foster innovation. The school seamlessly integrates modern organic synthetic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biology, computational and bioinformatics, and translational medicine. Through the collaborative efforts of scientists from diverse fields, SCBB has forged a new path for technological integration and innovation, established a cutting-edge drug research and development platform, and explored novel models for cultivating high-level interdisciplinary talent in biopharmaceutical R&D.

SCBB is home to the first Ministry of Education-approved doctoral program in the sub-discipline of Chemical Genomics. Its graduate training program emphasizes cutting-edge areas such as research on disease mechanisms and models, the study of drug targets and their mechanisms of action, computational chemistry and drug design, and the synthesis and methodological studies of significant natural products and drugs.

With an international organizational structure and research operation mechanism, the school has successfully attracted a distinguished group of scientific talents. It currently boasts 46 full-time faculty members, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, three recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, two leading talents in technological innovation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and one Guangdong Provincial Distinguished Young Scholar. The school has achieved significant research outcomes, with a consistent increase in high-level publications annually.

The school currently enrolls 180 graduate students and hosts 15 postdoctoral researchers. To date, it has graduated 489 students, many of whom have secured positions in high-tech enterprises, universities, and research institutions in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. Additionally, some graduates have pursued postdoctoral research at prestigious international universities and research institutions, including Harvard University, MIT, UCLA, and The Scripps Research Institute.
